History

Britannia Hotels Manchester occupies one of the city's most recognisable historic buildings. Originally built in 1868 as the Watts Warehouse during Manchester's thriving textile era, the building became one of the largest commercial warehouses in the city and played an important role in the Lancashire cotton industry.

Following decades of industrial use, wartime damage and an extensive restoration, Britannia Hotels acquired the Grade II listed building in 1979 and carefully transformed it into the hotel seen today. Many of its original architectural features, including the impressive cast iron staircase and grand chandelier, have been preserved, giving guests the opportunity to stay in one of Manchester's most distinctive historic landmarks.
